As the only think tank from the Gulf region, the Gulf Research Center took part on the T20 Kick-off conference on “Cohesion in Diversity: Accompanying the German G20 Presidency” organized by the German Development Institute and the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. The conference was held in Berlin, Germany. The T20 framework is the civil society component that will accompany the German presidency of the G20 throughout 2017 and it brings together think tanks from all G20 member countries. Through its participation, the GRC ensures that Gulf regional perspectives are part of the overall debate given Saudi Arabia’s membership in the G20. The opening keynote was delivered by Lars-Hendrik Röller, the Chief Economic Advisor to the German Chancellor, who outlined the German goal and objectives for the coming year.
The Gulf Research Center (GRC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on joint cooperation and research with the Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar. The MoU was signed by Dr. Abdulaziz Sager, Chairman of the GRC and Dr. Hassan Bin Ibrahim Al-Mohannadi, Director-General of the Diplomatic Institute.
Dr. Abdulaziz Sager, Chairman of the GRC, spoke at the Third Policy Advisory Group (ICI-PAG) meeting of NATO’s Istanbul Cooperation Initiative held from November 19 to 21 in Doha, State of Qatar.
Dr. Abdulaziz Sager, Chairman of the GRC and Dr. Christian Koch, Director of the GRC Foundation spoke and participated in the 9th Edition of the World Policy Conference held in Doha, State of Qatar. Dr. Sager spoke in the opening plenary session of the future of the Middle East.

Dr. Mustafa Alani, Senior Advisor and Program Director for Defense and Security Studies and Dr. Christian Koch, Director of the GRC Foundation participated in the 3rd Abu Dhabi Strategic debate organized by the Emirates Policy Center (EPC) in cooperation with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Washington-based Atlantic Council. The meeting addressed issues confronting the Gulf amidst a changing international order; US foreign policy under a new administration; terrorism in the wake of the recent attacks across the world; regional security cooperation in the Middle East; and innovation and cyber security.
